Training at Fort McCoy
The cadets all seemed to have had a good time at the last weekend event at Ft. McCoy. Our Recruits finally got to see the
base during the daylight hours. The previous trip was a whole different situation as you may remember....between arriving
late in the night and leaving during a snowstorm at night they didn't get to see much during their first visit to the base.
All of the Recruits seemed to enjoy their first experience at the EST training facility. While there we were treated to the company of a Brigadier General and his Sgt. Majors. The General choose to visit the trainer while our Cadets were shooting and spent a fair amount of time observing the Cadets. It is my pleasure to share with you that the General was most impressed with our young men and women. Just between us, I am not surprised...I think they are terrific as well.
As for the training, it is a steep learning curve, but all were up to the task. Following the trainer, they enjoyed a trip
to the Base Exchange. Shopping there is a fun time for most all. A highlight of the trip was an evening at McCoy's.
This is a wonderful facility on the base where the Cadets were treated to a large pizza fest, bowling, video games, pool
and fun social time. They were relaxed and laughing and as always wonderfully behaved and polite. Personally, I had a
great time getting to know some of our Recruits a little better. We are blessed with amazing kids. I hope they all came
home with delightful tales of adventure. Attached to this email is a few photos of the Cadets at Ft. McCoy.
The return to the Armory was smooth and the Cadets ended their weekend with their Physical Fitness Test. Keeping active
during the colder months can be a challenge for all of us. Now that the weather is being a bit more cooperative, remind
the kids to put down the TV remotes, video game controllers and get out into the great outdoors.
